Women hold prayer rally in preparation for revival

Hundreds of women bowed their heads in prayer and sang to God in a “concert of prayer” at First Baptist Church of North Augusta.

The prayer rally, in which women prayed to a backdrop of music, was held in preparation for Just Give Me Jesus, a two-day revival led by Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of evangelist Billy Graham.

The free revival will be held at the James Brown Arena on Sept. 21-22. More than 8,000 women are expected, said Blanche Conger, revival team chair of Just Give Me Jesus Augusta.

Participants in Tuesday night’s prayer rally were invited to pray for revival itself – in their own lives and in the community – in the weeks leading up to Lotz’s revival.

“It really starts with us. It definitely starts with each and every one of us,” said the Rev. Kris Key, minister of women’s ministries at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. She led the women in prayer as worship leader Stephanie Seefeldt played piano.

Dove Award-winning musicians Fernando Ortega and Babbie Mason will lead music at September’s revival. Sheila Bailey will lead prayer and Lotz will preach.

Prayer is a crucial part of revival, Key said.

God “has called us here for revival that we might pray, because our lives depend upon it,” she told the crowd. “God is calling you, God is calling the church, God is calling followers of Jesus Christ, to humble themselves and pray.”

The women prayed for more volunteers, revival organizers and fundraising efforts that seek to raise $120,000 on top of the approximately $120,000 the revival team has already raised to bring Just Give Me Jesus to Augusta.

“We stand before you Lord Jesus in need of revival, in need of your love, in need of grace,” Key prayed. “We need you, Jesus.”
