WHAT: The historic Springfield Baptist Church holds a service celebrating Morehouse College Founder’s Day. The school was founded in the basement of the Augusta church by the Rev. William Jefferson White in 1867.

ABOUT THE SERVICE: The Morehouse Glee Club is scheduled to appear as part of the Founder’s Day service, which celebrates 145 years since the college began as the Augusta Institute. Notable graduates of the school, which moved to Atlanta in 1879, include the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.; the Rev. Otis Moss III, the former pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Augusta; and Edward McIntyre, former mayor of Augusta.
