Keith Shafer, the director of music at St. Paul's Church, will play a concert for Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church's organ dedication.

WHEN: 3 p.m. Sunday

WHERE: Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Ave.

THE NEW ORGAN: Shafer, the owner of Church Music Services, an organ consultation business, is the director of music at Saint Paul’s Church in downtown Augusta. He assisted Trinity with the organ project as part of a $5.7 million renovation to the church’s sanctuary. Along with a new roof, air conditioning and heating, TV cameras and electrical work, the renovation included a new hybrid pipe organ that was made with portions of the old organ and new digital organ stops. The organ was built by Cornel Zimmer Organbuilders of Denver, N.C., and is larger than the previous organ, with more than 1,500 pipes, but the digital components allow the organ to take up less space than it used to, Shafer said.

THE CONCERT: The performance will include Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, arrangements of hymns and spirituals, and Widor’s Toccata from the 5th Organ Symphony. A reception will follow the program.

LEARN MORE: Call the church at (706) 738-8822 or contact Church Music Services at churchmusicservices.org.
