WHAT: The Scripture Run Motorcycle Event, a play on a biker's traditional poker run, raises money for a local church mission to Panama.
WHEN: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday
WHERE: The Building Worship Center, 1739 Gordon Highway
THE EVENT: "Bikers have this thing called a poker run," said Ray Reynolds, assistant pastor at the church. "They ride around and get cards and go back to a bar or to wherever is sponsoring it to see who has the best hand. That's what we're doing, except with Scripture." Bikers will visit seven or eight stops in Augusta, Harlem, Clarks Hill and Martinez to pick up Bible verses. Once back at the church, they'll compete in categories including "most gospel verses" and "most Old Testament Scriptures."
THE COST: $10 per bike. The ride supports a neighboring church's mission to Panama, Reynolds said.
QUOTE: "It's something you don't see every day," Reynolds said. While the church has held other motorcycle events, this Scripture run is the first of its kind, he said. "It might be something we turn into an annual event."
