My thoughts: The Gorillaz, a multiplatinum hip hop group, recently released their third album. A medley of hip hop, funk and electronic music, the album brings back the old band, recognizable from hits such as “Feel Good Inc.” into new age, yet similar style, of music.

Musically, the range of the notes is amazing; throughout the album a listener can pick up a number of sounds ranging from synths to ocean waves. Equally diverse are the personas that are featured on the album, well known artists such as Snoop Dogg, Mos Def, and Bobby Womack. Although seemingly polar, the different vocal and instrumental sounds of the album blend together seamlessly.

Overall, the album provides a unique, joyful mood, one that is continually complimented by the metronome-like melodies of the band itself. With singles such as “Stylo” and “Glitter Freeze,” the album comes together as a unique, ever-changing work of hip hop and electronic fusion.
