N. Augusta artist Edward Rice gets top SC award

 

Edward Rice, an architectural painter from North Augusta, is one of five recipients of the 2014 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Award, the highest award given by the South Carolina Arts Commission.

Rice was raised in North Augusta, where he currently maintains his studio. He studied at Augusta State University and has rendered architectural paintings along the border of Georgia and South Carolina for the past 35 years.

In addition to Rice, also earning 2014 recognition were the City of Greenwood (Government Award), Cynthia Boiter (Individual Award), Beaufort County School District (Arts in Education) and Elliott Davis, LLC (Business).

The awards will be presented at a midday Statehouse ceremony on May 8.
