French speakers to hold scavenger hunt in downtown Augusta

  • Follow People

If you notice people rushing around downtown Augusta in animal costumes this weekend, don’t be alarmed.

This Saturday, about 65 local French speakers will gather in downtown Augusta for a scavenger hunt.

Eight friends who work together on Savannah River Site’s MOX project are organizing the event called “Masters of Augusta.” They had a similar event two years ago in downtown Aiken.

The group calls itself the Masters of These Places, said Elodie Chartron, of Aiken, one of the organizers.

“Most of the people are working on the MOX project,” Chartron said. “It’s a way for people working on the same project to meet and spend time outside of work. There are a lot of French people there.”

The MOX employees, along with their families, will meet at 8:30 a.m. the Jessye Norman Amphitheater in downtown Augusta. The game starts at 9 a.m.

They will be divided into six teams to discover three places in downtown Augusta, using clues that are written in French.

One place will be on Broad Street, another on the Riverwalk and one will be at Enterprise Mill.

“It’s a way to discover Augusta,” Chartron said. “We want them to learn some historical details and to know the city better.”

Participants will be divided into teams based on the homemade animal costumes they are wearing.

After the scavenger hunt, they will meet at Savannah Rapids Pavilion for skits, games, food and singing with choreography created by the participants.
