The Morris Museum of Art announced Friday the release of its first iPhone app, which will allow users to listen to audio about and view images of selected works from the museum’s permanent collection and get information about upcoming exhibitions, according to a news release.
The app also will allow users to view the museum’s quarterly calendar of events and save them into their iPhone iCal. Users can also donate to the museum, join, or complete a volunteer application, or find general museum information such as admission, hours, and a map of the galleries. They can share Morris app information via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, the release said.
“The app turns the iPhone into a helpful, handheld guide for museum visitors, offering brief insight into pieces in each gallery of our permanent collection,” said Nicole McLeod, director of marketing and public relations at the Morris Museum of Art. “It also allows Morris Museum fans throughout the world to take a virtual tour of our permanent collection and special exhibitions.”
The app is available immediately for download for free in the Apple App Store, but is currently available only for the iPhone and iPod Touch. An app for Android-based phones is scheduled to be completed in late 2012.
