But alas she could not, because after being locked in a tower for a very long time and under extreme stress, Rapunzel had lost all of her beautiful, long, golden-blonde hair from an unexplainable condition known as alopecia.
She appeared at the window with her bald head and proclaimed, “Handsome prince, I have not any hair for you to climb to my rescue.” As the prince was running away, she yelled, “Well gosh, couldn’t you at least bring me a ladder?!”
So she said to herself out loud, “Who needs you anyway!” and began weaving a ladder from the pile of her golden hair to aid in her escape.
After fashioning a lovely hat out of the bedspread, she climbed down the ladder of hair, freeing herself without the help of a prince.
Upon her return to the village, a fashion designer spotted her hat and offered her a job at his company.
Her hair eventually grew back. She remained single and became rich and famous as a hat couture and lived happily ever after.
Q: My hair is very thin and you can see my scalp. I am embarrassed of it and think I might need a wig. What do you recommend?
A: There are many styles that will make your hair look thicker. It’s all about the cut, and even the color.
Color, if done correctly, can give the appearance of having more hair without damaging it, if a gentle staining process is used.
There are also steps that can be taken to help with the production of more hair and to prolong the antagen phase of hair growth.
The antagen phase is one of three phases of growth and defines the length of time that the hair stays on the head.
I offer a treatment formulated to condition the scalp, thereby creating a favorable environment for hair to grow. With the addition of a few inexpensive antioxidants that you can get at any grocery store, I have seen a remarkable difference in clients who have had a problem with thinning hair.
It is wise to stay away from products that claim to add “volume” to the hair. Many of these products will swell the hair shaft to create the effect of volume, which can cause breakage in fine or thinning hair.
It is also important to see a physician if thinning hair is something new or if you had thicker hair when you were younger and have not had things checked out.
