It’s a busy time in the garden, but consider taking a break to improve your gardening skills.

For inspiration, check out this weekend’s South Carolina Rose Society Show. It runs today through Sunday at the South Carolina State Fair in Columbia.

The show is in the Ellison Building, which you can find through Gate 11 off Bluff Road.

For more information, e-mail William Patterson at laurensroseman@aol.com.

To learn more about roses, you can attend Tuesday’s meeting of the Augusta Rose Society. Sheree Wright will talk about sustainable rose gardens at 7 p.m. in the adult building at First Baptist Church at Walton Way and Walton Way Extension.

Also open to everyone is the ARC Grower’s breakfast, which features Laurie Reed, a specialist on plant insects and diseases. She will talk about Insects of Trees at the Oct. 23 meeting at Forest Hills Golf Course, 1500 Comfort Road. Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m., and the program is at 8 a.m.

At next month’s meeting of the Augusta Rose Society, Ryan Tilley, of the Greater Atlanta Rose Society will speak about Roses for You and Me. The Nov. 20 meeting is at 7 p.m. in the adult building at First Baptist Church.
