Amy and Keith Blaschke wanted plenty of space to entertain and to give their family of four plenty of breathing room.

Together, they designed their 5,800-square-foot West Lake home, and Keith, who owns South Georgia Custom Homes, built it. The family moved in six months ago.

The first floor features an open floor plan that allows a spacious kitchen with a large island and an informal dining area to flow easily into the living room.

“We just wanted an open living space for our family and for entertaining. We were so close in our other house,” Amy said.

A bonus room upstairs – which can be used as a fifth bedroom – was designed to be the family hangout, with comfortable couches, and entertainment center and a full bathroom nearby.

It is situated between a spacious master suite on one side and the bedrooms of Mary Grace, 7, and Ellie, 4, on the right.

Somehow, though, the family spends most of its time on the first floor.

“It’s easy to transition from eating to the homework and the TV. It’s just really all right there,” Keith said.
