Today's Home: Summerville

At their old house in Forrest Hills, 9-year-old Kate Dial would have to ride her bike in circles on the family’s patio.

“The street was too busy,” said her mother, Maura Dial.

When the family started looking for a new house, Dial and her husband, Brandon, searched for something with a yard in a quiet neighborhood where Kate could ride her bike on an actual road. In February of last year, they found the perfect spot.

At nearly the end of Lancaster Road in Summerville, the Dials settled into a four-bedroom, two-bath home with a backyard and a porch. For Christmas, Kate got a trampoline.

“It’s been lots of fun,” she said before asking her mother if she could go back out to jump on the trampoline some more.

“She’s been out there all day,” Maura Dial said.

Church and faith are a large part of the Dial family’s daily life, which is why most of the home, built in 1957, is furnished with antique spiritual art. Maura Dial found one picture, Immaculate Heart of Mary by Charles Bosseron Chambers, online and it now hangs in the family room. The painting was from a Coast Guard station in Massachusetts, she said.

“I love finding these things,” she said.

Maura Dial and her husband grew up in Augusta and the couple are expecting a second child in June.

They have no plans for renovations to the home immediately. Right now, the family is happy being so close to church and school.

“The location is great and the home is warm,” Maura Dial said. “We are happy here.”
