Upcoming events for gardeners:
• Everyone is welcome to attend the ARC Grower’s breakfast, which features Laurie Reed, a specialist on insects and diseases. She will talk about “Insects of Trees” at the Tuesday meeting at Forest Hills Golf Course, 1500 Comfort Road. Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. and the program will follow at 8 a.m.
• Cold Creek Nurseries at 398 Hitchcock Parkway in Aiken is celebrating “The Flavors of Fall Festival” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 27.
There will be seminars on tree and shrub planting at 11 a.m., and winter color containers at 1 p.m. There will be pansy potting and face painting for the kids. And there will be a fall photo booth. Snacks include locally produced apple butter, jams, jellies and baked goods for sale, and free caramel apples, popcorn and soda. Canned food donations will be collected.
• Everyone is welcome for the North Augusta Council of Garden Clubs’ annual Educational Forum on Nov. 12. It begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North Augusta Community Center, 495 Brookside Ave., North Augusta. The meeting is free and features two speakers. Vickey Bertagnolli, the consumer horticultural agent for Aiken and Lexington counties, will speak on “Controlling Fire Ants in Your Yard.” And Janice Badke from Wildbirds Unlimited will speak on “Winter Care of Birds in Your Backyard.”
• On Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., Ryan Tilley of the Greater Atlanta Rose Society will speak about “Roses for You and Me” at the monthly meeting of the Augusta Rose Society, which is held in the adult building at First Baptist Church at Walton Way and Walton Way Extension.
