The 2,900-square-foot home overlooking the lake is where the couple gathers with their family, friends and Sunday school class for parties, cookouts on the deck or a relaxing afternoon on the lake, including swimming, fishingor a meal in their pontoon boat.

“It’s so peaceful and calm. It’s always beautiful this time of year,” Ann said. “I absolutely love the ocean, so this is the next best thing.”

The McBrides purchased the home eight years ago and lived there for a while. They decided to move back to Evans in 2007 to be closer to their grandchildren. Tommy, a broker for McBride Realty Inc., and his wife hope to return to their lake home when he retires.

Their friends own a home across the street, which makes their time at Keg Creek special, Ann said.

Keg Creek Estates is a community of about 120 homes. The first lots were sold in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, and Tommy said his relative purchased one of the first lots sold in the last phase of development. The McBrides previously owned a vacation home at Myrtle Beach, S.C., but they sold it and decided to vacation close to home. They allow their family and friends to stay in the home and also rent it out to other people wanting a vacation, some even traveling from Savannah, Ga.

Many families call Keg Creek Estates their year-round home. The location is convenient and also has schools nearby, Tommy McBride said.

“We’re only 15 minutes away from Kroger in Evans,” he said.

Their favorite room in the four-bedroom, three -bath home is the master bedroom.

“It’s where I love to come to sit and read. It’s the best reading corner that you can find,” Ann McBride said.

The McBrides allowed their six grandchildren to help them decorate, so many of the rooms have vibrant colors. The home’s décor is reminiscent of beach life, with paintings and figurines of boats, the ocean and seagulls. Their family and friends usually gather in the spacious downstairs area.

“We try to keep everything kind of informal and comfortable, so when people come they’ll just feel like home,” Ann McBride said.

The water level at the lake is low because the Army Corps of Engineers manages the water levels, but the McBrides hope the water will be higher in time for the summer.
