Suburbia called to Ann and Buddy Johnson early in their marriage.
After a few years in an Aiken neighborhood, however, she took her father’s offer to build a house on 5 acres across from the family farm.
The house is a place where family often gathers. They have two children and eight grandchildren, plus several members of Ann’s family still live across the street.
The home’s focal point is a 22-by 22-foot great room with a fireplace.
“One of the things we wanted was a great room,” she said. “We live in this room.”
Ann has her own escape – a bathroom which she patterned after a photograph in a magazine.
It’s more than a bathroom though. A garden tub is the centerpiece in the room, which also has a sitting area, office space and a fireplace.
“I wanted to have a fireplace in front of the tub,” she said.
Other favorite parts of the home are its screened-in back porch and patios. Ann and son Chris recently created a courtyard in the back.
The Family: Ann and Buddy Johnson
The House: 2,450 square feet, three bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms.
