A lot of the inspiration for Susie Genova’s decorating style comes from her friends. She took a chance with her kitchen after seeing how well a bold look worked in a friend’s kitchen.

“I grew up in Brynwood,” said Genova, who has fond memories of summers at the neighborhood pool.

She and her former husband did look at homes in that west Augusta neighborhood, but they decided on a nearby neighborhood. Genova has lived in Berckman Hills for about 10 years.

“It’s a very quiet neighborhood,” she said.

A lot of the inspiration for Genova’s decorating style comes from her friends. She took a chance with her kitchen after seeing how well a bold look worked in a friend’s kitchen.

“I saw a black kitchen,” she said. "My mother said I couldn’t paint it black.”

The family room is painted a warm brown and has a sleek, uncluttered look. Her bedroom has wood floors, which she installed herself.
