There are lots of ways to take a box of brownie mix to new heights. You can mix many delicious things into the batter, or you can really kick things up and try these Coconut Pecan Brownies.
I used brownie mix that includes chocolate chunks, but you can use a regular brownie mix and add one-half cup of chocolate morsels.
My husband calls these brownies "chocolate pudding brownies," but I think that they taste like German chocolate cake.
The cause of the moistness is the addition of sour cream and coconut pecan frosting.
If you want to really indulge yourself, sprinkle the top of the brownies with chocolate morsels, chopped pecans and shredded sweetened coconut before baking.
COCONUT PECAN BROWNIES
1 package brownie mix (preferably with chocolate pieces), 20-21.5 ounces
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs
1 container coconut pecan frosting
1 cup sour cream
Set oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Combine brownie mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl.
Add frosting and sour cream and mix until smooth. Spread in prepared baking dish.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
Makes 24 brownies.

Here are a few more ideas to change up a standard box of brownie mix:
- Spread half of the batter into a 9-inch square baking dish. Top with a large Hershey's Symphony Bar with Toffee and Almonds. Spread with remaining batter and bake.
- Stir in any one of the following: crushed Butterfinger bars, diced Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or cubed Snickers bars.
- Make cream cheese brownies: Combine 8 ounces cream cheese with q cup sugar, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture over the top of the brownie batter and then use a paring knife to pull through the batter to create a swirl pattern.
- Sprinkle the top of the batter with chocolate, peanut butter, white chocolate or butterscotch morsels, Reese's Pieces or M&M's candies before baking.
- Immediately after the brownies come out of the oven top them with one of the following: Andes Candies, York Peppermint Patties or Hershey bars. After the candy has melted, spread evenly over the top of the brownies.
