Who is your car?

As for me, the car nickname I remember best was the Warbler.

When I was in the military, all I could afford was a rickety 1960 Rambler sedan. Its paint was several sickly shades of hospital green. The car bounced down the road, moaned, smoked, rattled – even whistled.

It wasn’t just because of its whistling that I called that car the Warbler. On the trunk lid were huge chrome block letters spelling RAMBLER. I pried loose the first R and the M, reversed them, and turned the M upside down. Voila! WARBLER. It seems appropriate.

Now, let’s hear from you.

Magic Carpet ride

My first car was a '93 Subaru Impreza - its first model year - and I bought it after college so I could get to my first job in newspapers! The paint color was called Crimson Pearl, which I know because I had to buy a tube of the touch-up paint ... I called it my Magic Carpet. It survived until 2010 (17 years!) when someone hit it from behind. I miss that fun car.
