Chosen randomly from the correct entries was the name of David Anderson, who lives in Canton, Ga. He wrote:

“What young kid future car-guy/gal does not remember to this day his/her first actual sighting of the gorgeous XKE Jaguar? It is still iconic in its silhouette, evoking the very image of refined sophistication to get you to your destination as quickly as possible.

“This and the 1963 Corvette Stingray will live on in car collections around the world for all of eternity – long after the engineering schools have stopped even mentioning the internal combustion engine as anything more than a historical footnote.

“Unlike those high-water benchmarks of automotive design, the current XK offering does not offer as much of the styling panache of its predecessors so much as it does the same leading edge engineering and sports car pedigree that they also offered. With the only engine being a 5-liter V-8, but a choice between normal aspiration and supercharger, this XK has plenty of go-power, from 385 horsepower in the base XK to 510/550 horses in the XKR versions, and that sports car pedigree should be up to the challenge of keeping the car ‘shiny side up.’

“Zero to sixty times are claimed to be 5.2 seconds for the base XK down to 3.9 seconds for the super fast XKR-S GT version. All of this performance is guaranteed with a 17-19 mpg average fuel economy. I guess that will actually depend on exactly how heavy your right foot is in the GT version.

“Though this latest XK will not win any overall styling accolades, make no mistake that this is a modern, beautiful car with all of the amenities we expect today in a luxury brand. Technology and leather are abundant inside and out on the XK, and although that lovely XKE had leather seating, it was not exactly designed for the long haul. The modern XK is a luxury tourer first and a first-class sports car second. Even that brutal in-your-face 550-horsepower XKR-S GT delivers with James Bond style and elegance. (Well, if you lose that ridiculous looking spoiler on the rear it would.)

“All of this sophistication will set you back a little more than the average family sedan. Base price on the XK coupe is $79,000 ($85,000 for the convertible) and the superfast boy toy racer XKR-S GT will set you back $174,000! Only 25 of the GTs will be available in the U.S., so I would imagine the waiting list is already full for one of those.
