Chosen randomly from the correct entries was Wayne Wilke, of Evans, who wrote:

“The car is a 2013 Ford Escape, which looks to be a lot more attractive than the boxy 2012 model.”

He wins a prize from The Augusta Chronicle. Other readers identifying the vehicle were:

AUGUSTA: Carolyn Ogles wrote: “Ford Escape. Wild guess – it’s the gas cap/taillight.”

CANTON, GA.: David Anderson wrote: “Although it has always been classified as a crossover, the completely re-engineered 2013 Ford Escape has now lost its trucklike appearance.

“This is because this iteration is based on the recently re-engineered Focus. Because of this, gone this year is the 3-liter V-6 engine choice and the hybrid option.

“Engine choices this year range from a base, nonturbo 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 168 horsepower or two four-cylinder EcoBoost options, a 1.6-liter with 178 horsepower or a 2-liter with 240 horsepower. This last engine choice matches the horsepower output of the previously available V-6.

“With this redesign, Ford is hoping to address several of the shortcomings of the previous design, namely inadequate brakes and a more simple flip-down process to fold the back seat.

“I am not sure about the back-seat issue, but they have addressed the brake issue with standard four-wheel discs with ABS. In today’s market, I actually consider this to be the norm that every vehicle should have.”
