Chosen randomly from the correct entries was Chris Rhodes, of Cumming, Ga., who wrote: “New for the 2013 model year, the CX-5 offers up to 35 miles per gallon and may just be the new poster child for Mazda’s SkyActiv suite of technology and features that help Mazda provide impressive fuel economy through a series of weight-saving engineering changes and drivetrain upgrades that boost engine power while consuming less fuel to get the same amount of work done.”

He wins a prize from The Augusta Chronicle. Other readers identifying the vehicle were:

AUGUSTA: Carolyn Ogles wrote: “The Mazda USA official site has a very informative video about this crossover. Many outstanding features including best highway mpg of any SUV in America including hybrids!”

CANTON, GA.: David Anderson wrote: “Among its main competition are the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. The CX-5 is the only choice with a manual transmission, even if it is only available in the lowest trim level.

“I find it curious that the CX-5 has the smallest engine, a 2-liter four, with the lowest horsepower rating of 155 (versus 185 for the CR-V), yet it has the highest towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. So if you are considering this class of vehicle and have or are considering towing a small boat to/from the lake, this might be your vehicle of choice.

“I probably would opt for the all-wheel-drive version (even though that means giving up the manual transmission), just to have that extra oomph when the lake levels get low to be able to snatch that trailer up out of the muck.”

EVANS: Wayne Wilke and Jerry Paul

MARTINEZ: Jim Muraski and Jeff Miller
