Last week's photo showed the grille of the Chrysler 200, a new model from Chrysler that is an update of its Sebring line of cars for 2011. A slightly better shot of it is in the gallery above.

AIKEN: Bob Hardt wrote: "2011 Chrysler 200 - new for 2011. Man, tough time finding this one! Had to call for help of a friend, but he got it for me. Hate to admit I had about given up. It replaces the Sebring. Has a Mercedes-Benz look to it with the grille and the back of the rear-view mirror. That makes sense with their close past relationship to each other."

CANTON, GA.: David Anderson wrote: "Chrysler appears to be adopting a number scheme similar to the European brands as the Sebring is reintroduced to the world as the 200. The buzz that I am seeing on the Internet is that Chrysler is giving at least a face-lift to every car in their lineup for 2011 and attempting to re-invoke the element of luxury with the Chrysler brand.

"Along with exterior and interior updates to their best-selling 300, the 200 and 300 are being put out as a one-two punch to answer the criticism that Chrysler has received recently for having a dated lineup. As much as I have always liked their PT Cruiser, I am amazed at the fact that it continued on for its entire existence basically unchanged. All of that seems to be changing now with their Fiat corporate leadership infusing some cash and I am sure some direction for an all new lineup.

"The 200 has just been introduced and information is being leaked out slowly, but it appears that it will feature LED exterior lighting accents a la Audi and all-new engine/transmission choices. Additional luxury nuances will supposedly be apparent as well, which is why the Sebring name is being dropped.

"Only time will tell if this is enough for what has traditionally been the No. 3 American automaker among the Big Three, to polish up the shine on that corporate pentastar."

CUMMING, GA.: Chris Rhodes wrote: "The familiar grille shape is because the new-for-'11 200 is actually a moderately restyled Chrysler Sebring. The 200 name is meant to evoke a connection with Chrysler's larger 300 sedan.

"Drivetrains will include a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 (available in other offerings such as the new Jeep Grand Cherokee) and six-speed automatic transmission. With substantially more horsepower and torque than the Sebring's previous V-6, this engine should provide a more spirited driving experience. ... Interior changes consist of upgraded seats and materials and a new instrument panel. The most significant external changes are the front and rear fascias and a re-styled deck lid and new LED tail lamps.

"Since its shotgun wedding with Fiat, Chrysler has shown the buying public very little reason to consider purchasing its products.

"While other competitors have unleashed a barrage of redesigned or totally new vehicles, Chrysler has offered little more than 'window dressings' and warmed-up leftovers from previous design cycles. Although the 200 appears, to some at least, to be more of the same, it is viewed by others as a glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel. ..."
