THIS WEEK'S CONTEST

What is it?
What is it?

Can you tell us the make and model of this "colorful" 2011 vehicle? If you can identify it, send an e-mail to glynn.moore@augustachronicle.com or call (706) 823-3419.

We need your first and last names (please spell them clearly), telephone number, and city or community.

Pass along any personal comments you have about this vehicle. Your deadline is noon Wednesday. A winner will be chosen randomly. Thank you.

Last week's photo showed the rear quarter panel of the 2010 Porsche Cayman. Because the Cayman is basically a Boxster roadster that has a metal roof instead, we also gave readers who guessed Boxster partial credit.

Chosen randomly from the correct entries was the name of Jerry Paul , of Evans. He wins a gift from The Augusta Chronicle.

Other readers identifying the Porsche were:

AIKEN: Bob Hardt wrote: "I knew it right away, though had to decide if it was a Boxster or the Cayman. The Boxster rear 'gills' have a bright trim, where the Cayman does not, so it's a Cayman. Its quite the handling machine, either in Boxster or Cayman form, the Cayman being the coupe and the Boxster being a convertible.

AUGUSTA: Carolyn Ogles wrote: "The Cayman. In the past didn't we have the Porsche Boxster featured? Most likely it would take 2 weeks of looking throughout Augusta to see one of these! Noticed that the closest dealer is in Columbia."

Marvin Tucker said: "I almost said it was a Boxster but recognized it finally."

CUMMING, GA.: Chris Rhodes wrote: "It's a 2010 Porsche Cayman. While the side view of the Cayman and Boxster are similar (they are both Porsches, after all), the 'gill slits' in the quarter panel differ on each model. On the Boxster, the slits are arranged horizontally, while the Cayman's are more vertical.

"In addition, I would venture to say this is the 'standard' Cayman rather than the more powerful Cayman S. I make this statement based on the fact that the 'What Is It?' vehicle appears to be wearing the 17-inch Cayman II wheel, a size that is not available on the higher-performing Cayman S."

EVANS: Don Kittilson wrote: "2010 Porsche Cayman. Great choice; one of my favorites."

Wayne Wilke wrote: "2010 Porsche Boxter. The joke: I used to have a Porsche and I could never remember whether to pronounce it Por scha or just Porsch. So I sold it and and bought a 'Toy oat.'

"When I lived in Germany in the early '80s, I did borrow a friend's Porsche 944 and get to drive it 130 mph on the Autobahn; there's nothing like it."

Rafael O'Sheaf wrote: "This week's car is a Porsche Boxster, model S. Top track speed: 170 mph. The only personal comments I have about this model are ... too old to drive up to that speed and too poor to afford one; besides that, I think is a beautiful German engineering machine."

HEPHZIBAH: Jason Wright wrote: "This week's photo is a 2010 Porsche Cayman. I wish I had one, but by the time I finished configuring mine with metallic black exterior, terra cotta leather interior and black sport wheels I was up to $74,850. Unfortunately, I won't be able to afford one in the foreseeable future as Porsches are notorious for retaining their value.

"Originally based on the Boxster convertible, the fact is that even though this is the entry-level Porsche the similarity in performance between the Carrera and the Cayman has led to speculation about whether the Cayman S will cannibalize sales of the Carrera, as the basic Carrera's recommended retail price in the United States is $12,400 higher than that of the Cayman S."

MARTINEZ: Cheryl and Don Cook .

NO CITY LISTED: Darrel Bryant and Robin Shellito both guessed the Boxster.
