Bill Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band, winners of multiple Grammys, will share gospel classics as well as new songs that celebrate themes of faith, unity and eternal hope Friday in Aiken.
The show begins at 7 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Millbrook Baptist Church, 223 S. Aiken Blvd. SE.
Last fall, the band released their recording We Have This Moment, which features Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles and Reggie Smith, the newest addition to the group.
“The longer I live, the more I learn to appreciate the here and now — this moment — this place in life — this group of people with whom I am privileged to collaborate,” said Bill Gaither, who is the founder of Gaither Vocal Band.
Joining the band for the Aiken concert will be vocalists Charlotte Ritchie and Gene McDonald, as well as guitarist and comedian Kevin Williams.
Named ASCAP’s Songwriters of the Century, Gaither and wife Gloria have written more than 700 gospel songs throughout their multidecade career, including He Touched Me, Because He Lives and There’s Just Something About That Name. Since 1992, when Gaither began recording the group’s Homecoming series of DVDs and CDs, most every volume has gone gold or platinum with sales totaling approximately 100 million.
“I’ve always said it all starts with a great song, and we are fortunate that each concert includes great songs that have stood the test of time,” Gaither said. “With all the musical choices that are available now, there is still a special place for the joy and optimism that reside in Gospel music. Good news never gets old.”
