Cekuta to join St. Bartholomew’s
St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church of North Augusta has called the Rev. Nancee A. Cekuta to serve as rector effective July 1. She previously served as associate rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte, N.C.
A meet-and-greet social with Mother Nan is planned for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 1, in the church parish hall, 471 West Martintown Road in North Augusta. Her first Sunday as rector will be July 2 with services at 8, 9 and 11:30 a.m.
Diocese plans clergy changes
The Catholic Diocese of Savannah has announced the following priest assignments for parishes in Augusta and Grovetown: The Rev. Gerald P. Ragan, the pastor of St. Mary on the Hill, has been appointed pastor of St. Michael Parish, Tybee Island effective Aug. 1. Ragan, 64, has served as pastor of St. Mary’s since 2002 and in the diocese since 1996.
The Rev. Mark J. Ross, the pastor of St. James Parish in Savannah, has been appointed pastor of St. Mary on the Hill effective Aug. 1. Ross, a native of Augusta, was ordained to the priesthood at Most Holy Trinity Church in Augusta in 1988. He served as an assistant at St. Mary’s from 1989 to 1992. He has been pastor of St. James since 2003.
The Rev. Vernon Knight, the parochial vicar of St. Joseph Church in Macon has been appointed parochial vicar of St. Mary on the Hill effective June 14. Knight, ordained at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah in 2014, served his first assignment as a priest as parochial vicar of St. Joseph Church in Macon.
The Rev. Gonzalo E. Meza, parochial vicar of St. Mary on the Hill, has been appointed parochial vicar of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Grovetown effective June 14. Meza, ordained in 2009 for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas, has served in the Diocese of Savannah since January 2016. He has served in the Media Office of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and flown as a press delegate on the papal plane with Pope Benedict.
The Rev. Juan Carlos Castillo has been appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Church in Augusta effective June 14. Castillo, a priest of the Diocese of Leon in Nicaragua, has been given permission by his bishop to serve in the Diocese of Savannah for five years. He previously oversaw the restoration of Santiago Apóstol Parish in El Realejo, Nicaragua, founded in 1525.
