NORCROSS, Ga. — Police have charged a high school student headed to an after-prom party with vehicular homicide and reckless driving in a crash that killed one of the girls in his car and injured three other students.

Authorities say Dejon R. Wideman was arrested Monday. Police say he swerved into oncoming traffic early Sunday morning and hit a car traveling in the opposite direction.

Police say 16-year-old Johlonda Lindsey died after she was thrown from the car.

Gwinnett County schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach said Monday was “a very difficult day for everybody” and that a steady flow of students at Meadowcreek High School had spoken with counselors.

It was not immediately clear whether Wideman has an attorney.
