Bargains are to be found as retailers prepare for new season

  • Follow Life

Temperatures are still blazing outside, but most retailers are already gearing up for the fall. They're clearing out spring and summer merchandise to make room, and that means you'll be able to find some great bargains.

It's a great time to buy lawn and garden items, said Pat Adams, a manager at Kmart on Washington Road.

Shoppers can find flowerpots, grills, grill accessories, patio furniture, lawn chairs and yard ornaments (fountains and birdbaths) from 30 percent to 70 percent off, she said.

Customers can find spring and summer clothing on clearance for up to 70 percent off, Adams said.

Kmart's family footwear (spring and summer) is an additional 50 percent off.

If you have children, you can buy a bigger size and save the clothing for them to wear next year.

At Target, you can find summer attire starting at 15 percent off. Men's and children's swimwear is on clearance, as are some women's swimsuits.

School supplies at Target are now up to 15 percent off and will eventually reach 30 percent, according to a store manager.

It's also a good time for home-improvement projects. Home items at Kmart are 50 percent off.

At Target, you'll find items at discounts of 15 percent to 30 percent.

The Home Depot is running its "Vanity Insanity" sale at stores nationwide. Customers can find discounts on items to redesign their bathroom, including the vanity, cabinets and faucet. The store has a $400 vanity on sale for $169.

The Home Depot at 499 Bobby Jones Expressway has rugs, mirrors, hangers, totes, storage bins and shelves on sale. Clearance millwork such as doors and windows are 50 percent to 75 percent off.

The Home Depot has a free how-to clinic on small bathroom updates at 1 p.m. every Saturday in August.
