CHRISTMAS WITH GRITS ’N GRINS
WHAT: Grits ’n Grins, a local group of needleworkers, is working with The Salvation Army of Greater Augusta to deliver handmade baby blankets with matching hats and hat and scarf sets to children in the Augusta area this Christmas.
THEIR STORY: More than 100 children – from newborns to children up to age 12 – will receive handmade gifts this year. Grits ’n Grins, founded in Augusta in 2008 by Crystal Hathcox and Kate Booth, is comprised of more than 30 women who knit for local schools, foster care programs, outreach and rehabilitation programs. In 2012, they crocheted, knitted and hand-loomed 2,068 items to donate to local ministries.
JOIN THEM: Grits ’n Grins meets every second Saturday at Panera Bread Co. on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway from 8 a.m. to noon and every fourth Thursday at O’Charley’s restaurant on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway at 5:30 pm. No experience is required, and beginner materials will be provided for those ready to learn how to knit, crochet or loom. E-mail KateBooth51@yahoo.com or CBhathcox@comcast.net for details.
