Big Daddy Weave plays in Evans on Oct. 19

A concert this fall with Big Daddy Weave will be unlike any other in the band’s history.

“God has really done some neat things over the past couple years,” said lead vocalist and guitar player Mike Weaver. “The Lord really just put it on our heart to slow things down.”

The band brings a slower, more contemplative and prayer-filled concert to Grace Baptist Church in Evans on Oct. 19.

“We share from our hearts. We just go out and pray with people at the end,” Weaver said. “It’s incredible to hear the reports of what God is doing after we’re gone.”

The concert is just one stop on the band’s 22-city fall tour with Aaron Shust.

The Redeemed Tour, as it’s called, gets its name from a single on Big Daddy Weave’s latest album, Love Come to Life, released in April.

After more than a decade in the music industry, “I was just so tired. I was just worn out,” Weaver said. “God just did something. It’s been so refreshing to me personally.”

Shows at the beginning of 2011 began to reflect the band’s renewed focus, Weaver said.

“We were so loud, playing the music and trying to keep the energy up and the Lord just said, ‘Quiet down,’ ” he said. “It’s changed everything.”

Praying with the audience has allowed shows to become less concertlike and more worship-driven, Weaver said. It also allows them to meet fans and speak to them about Jesus.

“There’s hope for every single one of us because of who Jesus is,” he said. “We really believe God can use anybody. We’re just constantly bombarded by stuff that scares the daylights out of me on the news. It’s such a scary time. We need hope in the Lord, man.

“The places we’re broken, we’re not alone in that, nor are we condemned by it. God can fix anything broken in us. That’s what we believe.”
