Operation Christmas Child kicks off today
Operation Christmas Child, an international ministry to provide boxes of toys and essential supplies to needy children around the world, kicks-off in Aiken on May 26.
Participants in last year’s campaign and those interested in participating this fall are invited to Town Creek Baptist Church, 250 Town Creek Road, Aiken, at 2 p.m. May 26.
The event includes testimonies and a presentation about the box distributions, said Curtis Nappier, an Aiken area coordinator.
Last year, an estimated 8.5 million boxes were shipped to children worldwide through Samaritan’s Purse, an evangelical Christian humanitarian relief agency that launched Operation Christmas Child in 1993.
A five-county region including Aiken and Edgefield counties contributed 10,362 boxes last year. The boxes, containing items such as school supplies, hygiene items, games, a stuffed animal and personal notes, were shipped to countries such as Tanzania, Bolivia and Ecuador, Nappier said.
Refreshments will be served.
