The Magellan String Quartet


Pick’n and Praise’n

Pick’n and Praise’n opens its fourth season of live music with an event from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Glenn Hills Baptist Church, 2877 Lumpkin Road.

The free, family-friendly music venue features local performers on third Saturdays, January through October.

Rector installed

The Rev. Jason Haddox will be installed as rector of St. Augus­tine’s Episcopal Church, 3321 Wheeler Road, at 4 p.m. Sunday. He has served as priest in charge since 2010 and was called to be rector in November. Call (706) 738-6676 for more information.

Grace Corps

Grace Corps, a program of the Institute of Religion and Health, will begin at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 in Room 420 of the Summerville Pro­fes­sional Building at Trinity Hospital, 2258 Wrightsboro Road.

Quartet performs

The Magellan String Quartet will perform a free concert as part of the Covenant Concert Series of Covenant Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3. An offering will be taken in support of the series and a reception will follow.

The church, at 3131 Walton Way, will offer a free master class with the quartet at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 4. The performers will work with students from Richmond County public schools and the Augusta State University Conservatory. The community is invited to attend.

The quartet is comprised of violinists Jonathan Aceto and Jason Economides, violist Carl Purdy and cellist Ruth Berry.

Reid on the Run

The first Reid on the Run, a 5K and 1-mile fun run, will benefit Press On, which raises money for childhood cancer research, and the Children’s Ministry Program at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The fun run begins at 9 a.m. Feb. 11, with the 5K to follow at 9:30 a.m.

Pre-register for the 5K by Jan. 30 for $25, or the day of the race for $30. A T-shirt is included in the registration fee, but not guaranteed after Jan. 30. The fun run costs $10, and a T-shirt is not included.

Danish, muffins, fruit, juice, coffee and hot chocolate will be served after the run. Learn more at

Musical auditions

Enopion, a Christian theatre company in Augusta, will hold auditions for the original musical, The Prince Is Giving a Ball, by appointment on Thursdays from Feb. 16 to March 15.

Auditions will be held at the Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St. Parts are available for men, women and youth ages 15 or older. The musical will be performed Aug. 9-11 and 16-19 at the Kroc Center.

Hunger fundraiser

The outreach hunger ministries of St. Paul’s Church will hold an annual fundraiser at 7 p.m. Feb. 17.

The Paul Roberts All Star Band will play at the church’s River Room, at 605 Reynolds St. The venue will be decorated for an evening of dancing and music. Traditional New Orleans cuisine will be served. Costumes are optional. Proceeds from last year’s event allowed the church to donate $10,000 in aid to the food pantry sponsored by the Downtown Coalition of Churches.
