Amen Corner

WHAT: Action Ministries Augusta, formerly Augusta Urban Ministries, offers a White Christmas assistance program that provides food boxes and toys for low-income families in Georgia.

WHEN: Items must be purchased and delivered to the Action Ministries office on Dec. 5 or Dec. 6.

WHERE: 303 Hale St.

HELP A CHILD: Call Action Ministries at (706) 722-8195 and ask to adopt a child – or children – for Christmas. The agency will provide the child’s name, age, sizes and gift wishes, including necessities and toys. Shop for gifts totalling $50 to $70 for each child and drop them off by the Dec. 6 deadline. Do not wrap presents.

GIVE FOOD: In addition to toys for 1,900 children, Action Ministries is also assembling 200 food boxes for shut-in families. Contact the organization for a shopping list, which includes items such as dried beans, spaghetti, canned chicken, flour and tea. The boxes must be assembled and labeled to the organization’s specifications, and they all must include
a printed or hand-written copy of
Psalm 34:1-8.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: This is the fourth year the organization has offered a White Christmas program, said Rick Herring, the executive director. Action Ministries will distribute the gifts to families Dec. 10.
