Augusta Prep student plans an 'Earnest' senior project

It's senior project time at Augusta Preparatory Day School, and this year is no exception for fun and quirky ideas.

Dalton Cox, 18, is directing a modernized one-act version of "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde.

A half hour prior to the 8 p.m. performance on May 20, audience members will enjoy the musical talents of pianist Jae Lee, who placed first in this year's regional literary competition, while sipping tea with the cast.

Along with English beverages, servants from the show will serve petits fours and cucumber sandwiches, a favorite of the book's main character, Algernon.

The set, typical of an English garden party, will spill into the audience, creating an "intimate and interactive atmosphere," Dalton said.

The play will be held on the lawn at Augusta Preparatory Day School, and Dalton plans to charge $10 per ticket. The cast will also be accepting donations, as all proceeds will benefit the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.
