Olmstead Ensemble finally has date in Augusta

Group to perform for Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Series
The Olmsted Ensemble will play Jan. 24 and includes violist Jennifer Shallenberger, violinist Brian Clague, flutist Peter H. Bloom and cellist Timothy Robert.

While Peter Bloom and Rebecca DeLamotte have made numerous visits to Augusta, their next trip to the Garden City represents a first.

DeLamotte, an Academy of Richmond County graduate and the daughter of the late Roy and Minta DeLamotte, is the manager of the Olmsted Ensemble in which her husband, Bloom, is the flutist. The ensemble will play in the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Series on Friday, Jan. 24.

“Peter’s chamber groups have performed all over the world, and Peter has given more than 100 concerts across the Southeast.

“We’ve gotten as close as Columbia, but this is the first time one of our ensembles has performed in Augusta. I’m thrilled to bring the Olmsted Ensemble to my hometown,” said DeLamotte.

Based in Boston, the ensemble features Bloom; Brian Clague on violin; Jennifer Shallenberger on viola; and Timothy Roberts playing cello. The program includes the Quartet in D Minor by Charles Homman; Quartet Opus 41 No. 2 in F Major by Ignace Pleyel; Quartet No. 1 in D Minor by Spanish composer Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga; and Mozart’s D Major Quartet K. 285.

“The Olmsted Ensemble likes to mix up the repertoire, including well-known treasures and hidden gems,” she said.

DeLamotte called the program “spectacular” and “thrilling.”

DeLamotte has been working with Quentin Kuyper, the artistic director for the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Series, for several years to book a date for the ensemble’s Augusta debut.

“After many conversations and e-mails, we finally found the perfect match. The Olmsted Ensemble, with their program of European and American masters, was ideal for the Jacobs Series, and our calendars finally aligned.”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Georgia Regents University at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Tickets are $25 for adults and $7 for children.
