Ex-Augustan updates twins of myth

Augusta native Nathan Edmondson has gone classical for his first comic book series.

Olympus #1, scheduled to be released May 20 by Image Comics, is based on the Greek mythology of the Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux, and set in current times.

It will be Image Comics' Gem of the Month, their top pick of the month's releases.

Mr. Edmondson, a senior studying art history and Spanish at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., discovered the characters in a college class on great books.

He liked their story and wanted to create his own version.

A Macon illustrator suggested creating a comic book, and Mr. Edmondson decided to give it a shot.

"I'd never considered writing comic books," he said.

While at John S. Davidson Fine Arts School, he had taken a class on writing and production for stage and screen, an experience that he pulled from for writing the comic book.

"They're constructed just like movies," Mr. Edmondson said.

Macon is his home now, but Mr. Edmondson lived in Augusta until he was 17.

Although comic book artists live in Macon, but when it came time to find an illustra- tor for his story, Mr. Edmondson chose London-based Christian Ward.

Mr. Edmondson has three more installments in the Olympus series.

Some of his other work will be included in the upcoming Image Comics anthology popgun: volume three .
