Columbia County home entices Northerners

When Dennis and Jan Murray moved from Michigan to Columbia County more than six years ago, Mrs. Murray wasn't concerned about the style of the home as much as its location.

"I've always lived in places where I didn't have someone's yard I was looking into," she said. "I wanted some place on a golf course or on the water."

They found the perfect spot on a hillside overlooking the golf course at Jones Creek.

The home features plenty of yard for Mrs. Murray, who is a master gardener.

"It was an eroded hillside" when the couple purchased the property, Mrs. Murray said.

She landscaped it and brought in a horticulture expert to help her identify the plants. Some of the varieties in the yard were different from the ones she was accustomed to in Michigan, and growing seasons here are not at all like those she had known.

Mrs. Murray said she enjoys the natural setting of the couple's house.

"I love the situation. It's very peaceful to look at," she said.
