What is it?

What a difference a week makes! A record number of readers entered What Is It? last week, and this week -- well, a mere handful.

Mike Hooks, of Evans, was the first to guess that the photo we ran last week showed the rear end of a 2008 Volvo V70. (Is it a coincidence that he is the service manager for the local Volvo dealership?) For his accuracy and timeliness, Mr. Hooks wins an umbrella from The Augusta Chronicle.

Only three other readers also knew it was the V70: Sherman Chamberlain, of Martinez; Ken Ziegler, of Evans; and Perry Gladin, of Wadley, Ga.

A number of readers thought it was the Volvo XC90, which is more of a sport utility vehicle than the V70, which is a wagon. (Mr. Hooks pointed out the styling differences between them.)

This week's What Is It? photo, at bottom right, shows the front lights of a 2008 motor vehicle. If you can tell us what it is, write to glynn.moore@augustachronicle.com or call (706) 823-3419 and leave a message with your name and city of residence. If calling, tell us how to spell your name and include your telephone number. The deadline is noon Wednesday.

The names of all correct guessers will be published next Friday, and the first to correctly identify What Is It? will receive a gift from The Chronicle.
