Shopgirl: As weather heats up, lighten your accessories

Summer is a great time to stack on the jewelry – maybe it’s that we’re all showing more skin and wearing fewer layers, but somehow it seems more natural to put my sparkle wardrobe to work when it’s hot outside.

Of course, there’s no need to wreck your budget just to capture this season’s accessory trends.

I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that we’re seeing the curtains close on the statement necklace for now, so bear more towards light, layered necklaces and statement earrings or bracelets when you’re picking up trinkets.

Don’t forget local places like Soho, Vignettes and The Swank Co., but also venture into the Etsy marketplace to find truly unique pieces.

A fantastic local artist is offering classes this summer, and if you’re looking for a way to beef up your skills you won’t want to miss out.

Katherine Barnett McCall is locally known for her watercolor pieces, and she is offering six weeks of classes in her home this summer.

Classes are Thursdays from 1-2:30 p.m. and start June 19. Tuition is just $100, and the only limitation is that attendees be 10 years old and up. Get more details and register by calling Katherine at (706) 231-6559.

Do you get tired of quibbling over iPhone chargers at your house? It’s near impossible to differentiate between identical white boxes with wires coming out, but a new company, Whooz, has a concept that might make it a lot easier – stickers that cover your charger.

Each set comes with two to four sticker sets that range from weird little creatures to cartoon characters and will make it just about impossible to confuse your charger with someone else’s.

These sticker sets start at $12.95 and can be found at
