Shopgirl: New publication celebrates creativity

Robert Lewis, with the Swineholio cooking team, checks on the ribs he is fixing for his team's dinner at Papa Joe's Banjo-B-Que. This year's event will be held May 23 and 24.

I am so very proud to be a part of the first print edition of Trouvé, a lifestyle publication based out of Aiken. It’s a thick, beautiful tactile celebration of the creative lifestyle and I know you’ll love it. There are pieces about creators from all over the country, from the Vagabond Barista sometimes of Greenville, S.C., to my piece about jewelry designer and tastemaker Moorea Seal, of Seattle.

The photography is brilliant, the design is crisp and the writing will make you think and laugh and create.

You can pick up copies at Old Edgefield Pottery in Edgefield, S.C., or order online at

Oh, this is not good … I found an app that makes it just too easy to track your shopping wish list and alerts you when the price dips into your comfort zone.

You add items by listing or by scanning the barcode, and the PoachIt brain tracks them online (along with all the Internet’s coupons and sales) and then lets you know when the item is where you want it. Pinterest came out with something along these lines a while back, but it never really took off. Here’s hoping this causes me to spend less on clothes, not more. Find PoachIt free in the App Store.

There are still tickets available for the Papa Joe’s Banjo-B-Que at the Evans Towne Center Park, believe it or not. The weekend pass is only $60, and that gives you two full days of music ranging from local acts such as The Ramblin’ Fevers to big names like Old Crow Medicine Show and of course, The Avett Brothers. You’d be hard pressed to find tickets to either of them for $60, much less both at once and just minutes away from your front door.

The Avett Brothers headline May 23, and OCMS on May 24. In between enjoying the music, walk around and taste the creations of award-winning barbeque geniuses all competing for Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned prizes in chicken, brisket, pork and ribs. Get your tickets now at before they sell out.
