The 26th annual North Augusta Christmas Tour of Homes offers a chance to see a wide range of decorated homes and give back to the community at the same time.
The tour, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, is sponsored by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Seven homes will be featured from all areas of North Augusta, in addition to the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta, which will serve as a tour rest stop.
People in the area are often willing to showcase their homes, said Betty Farris, a member of the publicity committee.
“We have a list for next year already,” she said. “People refer homes to us, and sometimes I’ll even have a homeowner come up to me and ask to be on the tour. It’s a pretty close town and people are willing to give back and share.”
Last year, the tour raised about $11,000 for local nonprofits.
“This year, we would like to exceed that,” said Mary Faye Butler, also a member of the publicity committee.
Funds raised through this year’s event will go toward scholarships, teacher grants and local nonprofit organizations.
The weekend event will begin with a candlelight tour on Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
“We encourage the homeowners to have candles out in the home, low lighting, but not dark,” said Farris. “It makes it more Christmaslike, and many people love that.”
The tour will continue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. People can tour all the homes on one day or split them over both days, said Farris.
Those taking the tour are urged to wear comfortable shoes. Cameras are not allowed. On Dec. 7, the sorority will also play host to a brunch and fashion show at First Baptist Church of North Augusta’s fellowship hall. Proceeds from the event also benefit community organizations.
Women’s fashions will be provided by Chico’s and children’s fashions will come from Posh Tots.
Two children from each of the North Augusta area elementary schools were selected to be models in the show, Butler said.
Tickets for the tour can be purchased in advance until 3 p.m. Friday or during tour hours at any of the tour stops. Tickets for the brunch and fashion show must be purchased by Tuesday.
