Shopgirl: Instagram fans can create mini movie stories

Instagram just released “Instagram Stories” – a feature that might sound a lot like Snapchat’s similar feature, but is actually noticeably different. I have found the few Instagram Stories that I’ve watched to feel a lot more artsy and more like a mini-movie other than the video-scrapbook feel that Snapchat Stories feel like to me. There are very few features to add on to the video creations as of yet (read: no puppy filters or flower crowns), but I think it could still work. One cool aspect of the Instagram Stories is that you can select a different batch of people to see any given video – all of your followers, just your college friends, or maybe just a close bunch. That’s a feature I’d love to see on Snapchat.

WHAT’S TRENDY: Have you noticed this trend that’s been cropping up on the runways and in fall campaigns where a model only wears one earring? We’ve had the lopsided trend before, but this iteration is made for hairdos with deep side parts or just girls who want to keep their look from becoming too symmetrical. The best part is you don’t really have to buy anything new – just “forget” to wear both earrings and stick with just one. Be prepared for people to ask if you lost one, but I think it makes for a cool look. Check it out on models for Celine, Isabel Marant and Dior.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: Garden City Jazz will be holding a Candlelight Wine & Dine on Aug. 20, a night of music and picnicking under the stars that also supports young local musicians. The Wine & Dine will feature Ashley Elim and headliners Bethany & Balducci. The event will take place at the Columbia County Amphitheater and some of the proceeds go to the Wycliffe Gordon Scholarship at Augusta University. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door, but kids 12 and under get in for free. Vendors will be there, but you can also bring your own picnic and enjoy a night out that helps our thriving local arts community.
