There’s a great new app that allows you to have peace of mind regarding your loved ones’ safety and give them peace of mind for yours.
The app is named Companion, and it acts as a periodic check-in with your emergency contacts for when you walk home alone, or for some other situation where they would want to know you got home all right.
The app tracks your route (which you plug in), and when it seems like you should have arrived, it sends you a notification asking whether you’re OK.
If you don’t respond, the app notifies the contacts you selected at the outset.
The app also has a quick emergency call option in case something does go awry. Find it in your app store, or at CompanionApp.io.
WHAT’S TRENDY: Get excited for Symphony Orchestra Augusta’s remaining items on the 2015-16 season calendar, bringing in 2016 with “All Brahms” on Jan. 16 and continuing with Mozart’s Jupiter on Feb. 20, the Faure Requiem on March 12 and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on April 23.
Each performance is at First Baptist Church of Augusta at 7:30 p.m., and you can get tickets at SOAugusta.org or by calling (706) 826-4705.
WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: Goodwill of the CSRA has recently opened its Last Chance! Store in Martinez, the place where merchandise that didn’t sell in local Goodwill stores gets one final opportunity to find a home before being recycled.
The store’s prices start at $1.25 for clothing and drop each day, and for other items the price is way below what they were selling for at the “regular” Goodwill stores.
Because of the unique inventory process and high number of man hours required to keep the inventory flowing steadily, the Last Chance! store is only open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is at 3946 Washington Road.
