Shaw’s Sunshine Gardens has been keeping 630 movie stars under wraps lately.
Soon, however, they will travel to Atlanta where they will be in a new movie, Solace, and rubbing their day lily flowers against the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell.
Charlie Shaw, the owner of Shaw’s Sunshine Gardens on Lumpkin Road, said he thought the voicemail was a joke when the movie company’s key greensman called about the possibility of buying 7,000 white day lilies. Shaw returned the call and explained that the request would be nearly impossible. He referred the greensman to another day lily specialist who might be able to help.
The movie’s landscape man, however, returned to Shaw and the negotiation went back and forth before everyone settled on 630 yellow plants wrapped in burlap.
Last week, they were waiting patiently for their turn to shine in front of the camera. If you didn’t know the plants were bagged, you wouldn’t have been able to tell, especially from a distance.
Shaw’s day lilies might not get any close-ups, but Shaw won’t be the only one watching to see the scene where the characters are walking through a field of yellow blooms.
