Shows can provide gardening fix

A new issue of a gardening magazine arrived this week and I fell on it like a rabid dog. If you are also in serious need of a garden fix, check out these upcoming events.

Tuesday morning, extension plant pathologist Jean Woodward will speak about diseases of ornamentals at the ARC Growers monthly meeting at Forest Hills Golf Course, 1500 Comfort Road. If you would like to have breakfast first, call (706) 821-2350 no later than 10 a.m. Monday to make reservations. Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. with the program at 8 a.m.

After that, head over to the 10 a.m. Tuesday presentation by Linda Copeland at the Augusta Country Club. Copeland’s visit is funded through the Nolan M. Falcone speaker series of the Sacred Heart Garden Festival.

Copeland most recently co-authored a book about the people behind the names attached to certain plants. Tickets are $30 per person. Call (706) 826-4700 for reservations.

Make reservations now for the Augusta Council of Garden Clubs’ 22nd annual spring award luncheon. Garden designer Carmen Johnston will disucss container gardens to add style, texture and color. The March 19 event at the Augusta Country Club begins at 9:30 a.m. and includes lunch at noon. Registration is $25 until March 12 and $30 afterward.

Registration forms are available at the Garden council’s Web site and click on ACGC Spring Luncheon; or contact Judy Kirland at (706) 556-3417 home, (706) 533-1149 cell, or
