Shopgirl: Drop pin on globe, get news of anywhere

There’s a new app that brings you worldwide news just by dropping a pin anywhere on the map.

It’s called Omniscient, and you drop a pin in any spot on the globe and the app will show you relevant headlines for that part of the world.

It’s a free app and a great way to be exposed to news beyond just the heavy hitters like the U.S. and China.

Find the app in the App Store for iOS – sorry Android users, your version is coming soon.

WHAT’S TRENDY: Come to the Kroc Center on Saturday, Jan. 30, for Make It! Bake It! Take It!, a pottery class in which you create two or three pieces with your own hands, guided by instructors who will help you the whole way.

The class is basic enough for someone with no experience, but if you have pottery experience it can be advanced enough for you, too.

The class is $50 and you can come back for free on Saturday, Feb. 6, to glaze your creations. Call (706) 364-4064 for more information.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: Forever21, a brand that I have, admittedly, not participated in since I was a teenager, recently released an activewear collection that is worth perusal.

Starting at single-digit prices, these pieces borrow a lot of themes seen in much pricier brands, and in creative reinventions of those themes. One of the themes is “never too late,” which I think is a very inspiring mantra for any fitness goals and resolutions we might all have.

I have been impressed with the quality of these pieces, especially considering price – and honestly, I don’t have a problem with having a
high turnover rate with workout gear when you stop and think about gym germs!
