Shopgirl: Nailbot, an inkjet printer for nails, free for a donation

The Augusta city Christmas tree will be lit Dec. 5 at the Augusta Common. A whole day of activities will lead up to the tree lighting.

If you’re someone who never just goes with a basic red or neutral pink for your manicure, you might enjoy The Nailbot. This fun gadget prints designs directly onto your nails, using thermal inkjet technology. You can print anything from original art to emojis, and it only takes about five seconds to print. Right now, you can get it for $149 by donating to their IndieGoGo campaign. The machine includes a color cartridge that will last for 5,000 manicures, white polish, and pre-polish. Head to and search for “nailbot” to get all the details and see a demonstration video.

WHAT’S TRENDY: This time of year is a lot of fun since there are more parties and dress-up occasions than come around in a given August or May – and it’s important to stock your closet with a few pieces that can turn your favorite basics into party perfect looks.

To start, pick up a pair of fancy pants, in a fabric like brocade or velvet, to stay warm and stylish for anything from cocktails to a tour of homes. Simone Rocha has a super cute pair of black pants that have marabou encircling the hem, and if you’re looking for something a little more budget-friendly go to Banana Republic and take a look at their silk wide-leg pants that come in a few poppy colors.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: The perfect way to kick off the holiday season is by going to the Christmas Light Up Spectacular from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Augusta Common.

With the lights, fireworks show, children’s activities and live music, you have to be the Grinch indeed to leave without being in the holiday spirit.

The event is free, and you can get more information by calling the Downtown Development Authority at (706) 722-8000.
