Shopgirl: A new kind of password; a fun new Habit; and Screen on the Green

As more and more areas of our lives become Internet-based, the problem of passwords has become a new frontier of innovation.

Developers have used fingerprints, brain waves and other “biological passwords” as a way to immediately recognize someone, but one Toronto-based company thinks it can do the same easily and inexpensively with just a heartbeat. The brains at Bionym have started selling a wristband that can be linked to a smartphone or computer via Bluetooth, password-protected with your heartbeat and controlled by gestures and sound.

Nymi, the wristband, records a two-minute electrocardiogram to initially set up the system and then can be unlocked or accessed by touching the top of the wristband for a few seconds. One of the coolest aspects of this particular project is that the wristbands are selling for $79 and are expected to stay under $100 – a great price for something so exciting.
