Shopgirl: Fashionable maternity pants; doctors who cook; and apps

Maternity clothes are famous for being unflattering and difficult.

J. Crew has come to the fashionable mother’s rescue with its new maternity collection cut and styled with exactly the same panache as the rest of its pieces.

It recently released its Minnie and Pixie style pants in maternity versions, with a dipped waistline and side elastic panels to make room for the baby bump.

These are the only two things in the maternity collection so far, but rumor has it there will be some denim styles rolling out later this season.

Both pants cost about $100, and you can order them at J. Crew says to order your regular pant size, and the maternity version should fit perfectly.

The Children’s Heart Program Volunteer Council is about to throw its distinctive Doctors Who Cook gala this Saturday.

It’s exactly what it sounds like – nearly 100 local doctors cooking their specialties for a fantastic night that benefits children with heart disease and their families.

From therapeutic pillows to patient scholarships to the Thanksgiving Day meal, the fundraiser allows the council to do a great amount of good for kids at Georgia Regents Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital of Georgia .

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is famous for selling out, so go to to get your tickets or reserve an entire table.

I change my iPhone background regularly, but it’s usually an awkward crop of a photo I love or one of the background images that came with my iOS.

I found a few apps (they’re free!) that create custom designs suited for iPhone backgrounds, and you should give them a try.

Yay!Mine! is an app that lets you choose a cartoon character that best typifies you, and then adds your name to “THIS iPhone BELONGS TO” for an extra dose of personalization. The drawings are super-cute, and the overall effect is like a bookplate.

If you’re looking for a total redesign, check out Wallpaper Maker DIY. This app allows you to personalize even your icons on your home screen, with themes ranging from cartoon animals to neon lasers.
