Shopgirl: Facebook chat, charity concert and a new Target collection

Do you use Facebook chat to communicate? The latest updates have added the “chat heads” feature for iOS, where you’re alerted when someone instant messages you by their face appearing in a small pop-up icon within whatever app you’re using at the moment.

You can respond to the chat in that app without having to go back into Facebook, or you can drag it away to ignore it.

The chat heads were just one of the features in the “Facebook phone” debuted a few weeks ago.

Looking for something fun, affordable and with a charitable result? Mark your calendars for April 25, when the Press On to Cure Childhood Cancer Fund will hold an evening of traditional Irish music to raise money for cancer research.

Liz Knowles, Kieran O’Hare and Pat Broaders will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Enterprise Mill Event Center. Tickets are $15 in advance and are available at Fat Man’s Mill Café and The Bean Baskette Coffee House.

Only 250 tickets will be sold.

The latest designer collection has arrived to Target, and this time it’s Vogue editor-turned-celebrity-stylist Kate Young.

This line has a more formal feel than most of the Target collaborations have had, but I think the quality is a little bit lacking. It’s a lot easier to make $50-70 pieces if they’re on the casual side, but these floor-length satin dresses in the Kate Young collection come off as feeling pretty cheap. A few of the cocktail dresses are really cute, and the accessories are special and fun.

The Prabal Gurung collection was going to be a hard line for anyone to beat, but in my opinion, Kate Young didn’t even come close.
