Shopgirl: Outlook webmail, Augusta Museum of History dog days deals, Gypsy Rose

We can’t go too long without another “next big thing” taking the Internet by storm, and when Microsoft released its new Outlook webmail last week, more than one million people signed up within 24 hours.

I checked it out, and it seems to be a really clean setup. You can bring in other e-mail accounts to the Outlook webmail page, and it offers standard instant messaging services that can be synced with your Facebook account.

As standard as Gmail has become, everything on the Internet has a lifespan. Gmail’s 425 million users are a lot for Outlook to catch up to, but could this make Gmail the next Juno?

I was sad to see Ready to Wear Again close earlier this summer, and sad yet again when the Sparrow’s Nest and the Gallery announced they were liquidating their inventories.

Well, now it seems that the Sparrow’s Nest has remade itself into a new specialty interiors shop called Gypsie Rose and will be in the space formerly occupied by Ready to Wear Again, 2107 Kings Way in Summerville.

Gypsie Rose was a featured stop at the August First Thursday last week. It will sell a wide assortment of quirky accessories for you and your home.

The selection ranges from adorable throw pillows to re-upholstered vintage furniture to monogrammed fashion items.

The Augusta Museum of History is taking affordable to a whole new level. For the month of August, they are offering $1 admission for everyone who wants to come in and learn about Augusta’s history.

The museum was founded in 1937 to preserve and share the history of Augusta. Some of the exhibits on display right now include the rich regional history in Augusta Story and Augusta’s celebrities in Local Legends.

In celebration of the museum’s 75th anniversary, make sure to check out the Blast from the Past exhibit, which has everything from a bison to fossils.

Hours are Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. Group tours are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays if scheduled two weeks in advance. Call (706) 722-8454 for more information.
